The Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium) is the flower that more than any other evokes autumn: when other balcony plants have finished their season, it forms a compact cushion covered with flowers in warm, intense colors that remain open for weeks. This specimen, approximately 30 cm tall and in a 14 cm diameter pot, is ready to decorate balconies, terraces, windowsills, entrances, and flower beds, and is the traditional plant for All Saints' Day and the Commemoration of the Dead at the beginning of November.
Mixed colors: the chrysanthemum is offered in assorted colors. The flower color cannot be selected: at the time of ordering, plants are selected according to current availability. In multi-piece packages, the colors may differ from one another. The images are indicative of the available varieties.

Chrysanthemum Care Tips
- Light: It loves sun and very bright locations: at least 5-6 hours of light per day keep the plant compact and flowering longer. Bright partial shade is also suitable.
- Water: Potted chrysanthemums drink a lot and suffer if the soil dries out completely: water at the base when the surface begins to dry, without wetting the flowers and leaves. Avoid waterlogging and empty the saucer after about 20 minutes.
- Temperature: It tolerates cool autumn weather well and withstands brief, light frosts. During periods of severe frost, it is advisable to move the pot to a sheltered spot near the wall of the house.
- Placement: Perfect in pots and planters on balconies and terraces, at the entrance to the house, in autumn flower beds, and arranged with cyclamens, heathers, and evergreen plants.
- Fertilization: Not necessary during flowering; from spring through the following summer, fertilize every 2-3 weeks with fertilizer for flowering plants.
- Spent flowers: Remove dried flowers regularly to keep the plant tidy and encourage the remaining buds to open.
- After flowering: Cut the stems to 10-15 cm above the ground. In spring, it can be transplanted into a larger pot or planted in the ground: it is a perennial and flowers again every autumn.
Frequently Asked Questions About Chrysanthemums
Can I choose the chrysanthemum color?
No, chrysanthemums are sold in mixed colors. At the time of ordering, the plants are selected according to current availability, always choosing healthy specimens that are flowering or have buds ready to open. In multi-piece packages, the colors may be assorted.
Is the chrysanthemum an outdoor or indoor plant?
The chrysanthemum is an outdoor plant: it flowers longer outdoors, in the sun and cool air. Indoors, with the heating on, flowering lasts much less time. It can be brought inside for a few days, for example as a decoration, and then returned outdoors.
How long does a chrysanthemum bloom last?
Generally 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the temperature and location. Regular watering, good light, and removing spent flowers help extend it.
How often should I water a chrysanthemum?
When potted, on average 2-3 times a week in autumn, less during rainy or cold periods. The soil should be kept slightly moist: if it dries out completely, the plant wilts quickly.
Why is my chrysanthemum wilting or developing dry leaves?
The most frequent cause is a lack of water, followed by waterlogging in the saucer or a location that is too dark and warm. Water thoroughly if the soil is dry, empty the saucer, and move it to a bright, cool location.
How can I make my chrysanthemum flower again the following year?
At the end of flowering, cut the stems to 10-15 cm and let the plant rest in a sheltered location during winter. In spring, repot it or plant it in the garden, and pinch the tips of the new shoots until the beginning of July: you will get a fuller plant and new autumn flowering.
Is the chrysanthemum toxic to cats and dogs?
Yes, chrysanthemums are toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets if ingested, so it is advisable to keep them out of their reach.
