How to care for your mixed succulents
Our guidelines for helping it grow healthy and strong
Mixed succulents are a fascinating group of succulent plants, perfect for those who love variety and resilience. Native to arid and semi-arid areas of southern Africa, the Americas, Asia, the Mediterranean, and the Canary Islands, these plants are renowned for their ability to store water in their fleshy tissues. At our nursery, we have selected them for their beauty and ease of care, making them ideal for anyone who wants an exotic touch in their home or garden.
The right location
Succulents love direct sunlight. Place your plants where they can receive plenty of light, such as on a south-facing windowsill. During winter, a cold greenhouse can be an excellent solution to ensure they get the right amount of light.
When and how to water it
In spring and summer, water thoroughly only when the substrate is completely dry. In winter, drastically reduce watering, as the plants enter dormancy. A good way to check whether it is time to water is to lift the pot: if it feels light, it is time to water.
Temperature and humidity
Succulents thrive in a temperature range between 15°C and 30°C. They can tolerate minimum temperatures as low as 5°C, but prefer a dry environment with humidity between 20% and 50%.
The right fertilizer
During the growing season, from April to September, we recommend fertilizing your succulents every 30 days with a liquid fertilizer specifically for cacti, rich in potassium and low in nitrogen. This will help the plants maintain their vitality and beauty.
The pot and soil
Use a very well-draining, gritty, peat-free compost specifically for cacti and succulents. You can improve drainage by adding up to 30% grit, pumice, or fine gravel. A layer of expanded clay at the bottom of the pot will further help prevent waterlogging.
How to propagate it
Mixed succulents are easy to propagate. You can use leaf or stem cuttings, or side rosettes. Let leaf cuttings callus for a few days before placing them on a slightly moist substrate. Sowing is also an option, although it takes more time.
