How to care for your Ixora

Our guidelines for helping it grow healthy and strong

Ixora, also known as "Jungle Flame" or "Flame of the Woods", is a fascinating shrub native to India and Sri Lanka. At our nursery, we chose this plant for its vibrant flowers and its ability to bring an exotic, colorful touch to gardens and indoor spaces.

The right location

Ixora loves bright light and prefers to receive direct sunlight for a few hours a day. Place it where it can receive plenty of natural light, but be careful to protect it from strong sunlight during the hottest hours to prevent leaf scorch.

When and how to water it

During summer, Ixora should be watered every 3 days, while in winter, once every 7 days is sufficient. It is important to water thoroughly, but allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Check the soil moisture with your finger to make sure it is not too wet.

Temperature and humidity

Ixora thrives in an environment with temperatures between 18°C and 30°C, tolerating a maximum of 35°C. The minimum temperature should not fall below 10°C. This plant prefers high humidity, between 60% and 80%, so it is advisable to mist the leaves during drier periods.

The right fertilizer

During spring and summer, fertilize Ixora every 30 days with a balanced liquid fertilizer. This will help the plant maintain vigorous growth and abundant flowering.

The pot and soil

Ixora needs well-drained soil with a pH of around 5.5. A good mix could include peat, sand, and perlite. Make sure the pot has adequate drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

How to propagate it

Ixora is propagated by cuttings, a method of medium difficulty. Cuttings should be taken in spring to ensure better rooting.

Our final advice

With the right care, Ixora will reward you with spectacular blooms. Remember to check the soil moisture regularly and place it in a well-lit location for the best results.
