How to care for your Dracaena

How to care for your Dracaena

Our guidelines for helping it grow healthy and strong

Dracaena deremensis, also known as Dracaena, is an evergreen shrub native to tropical Africa. At our nursery, we appreciate this plant for its ability to adapt to different light conditions and its elegant, slender appearance, making it a perfect choice for beautifying your home's interior.

The right location

Dracaena prefers bright, indirect light, but it can also tolerate low-light conditions. Place it somewhere it can receive filtered light, away from direct sunlight, which could damage the leaves.

When and how to water it

Water your Dracaena when the soil feels dry to the touch. In summer, this could mean watering every 7 days, while in winter, every 14 days will be sufficient. Check the soil moisture by inserting a finger into the substrate to make sure it is the right time to water.

Temperature and humidity

Dracaena thrives in an environment with temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. It is important to maintain a medium humidity level, between 40% and 60%, to ensure its well-being.

The right fertilizer

During spring and summer, we recommend feeding your Dracaena with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 30 days. This will help the plant maintain its vigor and beauty.

The pot and soil

Use well-draining soil made up of peat and perlite to promote good drainage and prevent waterlogging. Repot the plant when the roots start to emerge from the pot's drainage holes.

How to propagate it

Dracaena can be propagated from stem cuttings. This method is moderately difficult, but with a little patience, the cuttings can be rooted either in water or directly in the soil.

Our final tip

Dracaena is a versatile, hardy plant, perfect for anyone who wants a touch of greenery at home without too much maintenance. Remember to regularly check the soil moisture and place it somewhere with indirect light to keep it healthy.
