How to care for your Meyer's Asparagus
Our tips for helping it grow healthy and strong
Meyer's Asparagus, also known as "Foxtail Fern" or "Plume Asparagus", is a perennial plant native to South Africa. At our nursery, we chose it for its elegance and ability to adapt easily to indoor environments. Its soft, feathery fronds add a touch of lush greenery to any space.
The right position
Meyer's Asparagus prefers bright, indirect light. It is important to place it where it can receive plenty of light without being exposed directly to sunlight, which could damage its delicate fronds.
When and how to water it
During summer, we recommend watering Meyer's Asparagus every 7 days, while in winter, every 14 days is sufficient. It is essential to check that the top layer of soil is dry before watering, which should be done at the base of the plant to prevent waterlogging.
Temperature and humidity
This plant thrives in an environment with temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, but it can tolerate a wider range, from 5 to 30 degrees. Ideal humidity is moderate, between 40% and 60%. Maintaining these conditions will help the plant grow lush and healthy.
The right fertilizer
During the active growing season, in spring and summer, we recommend using a balanced liquid fertilizer every 30 days. This will help Meyer's Asparagus maintain its vitality and deep green color.
The pot and soil
The substrate must be well-drained. A mixture of peat, sand, and perlite with a pH of around 6.5 is ideal for ensuring good drainage and optimal growing conditions. Repotting can be done when the plant has filled its current pot, preferably in spring.
How to propagate it
Meyer's Asparagus can be propagated by division or from seed, although division is the more common and easier method. This should be done carefully to avoid damaging the delicate roots.
Our final tip
Meyer's Asparagus is a versatile and hardy plant, but it is important not to neglect its light and watering needs. With a little care, it will reward you with its beauty and timeless charm.
