How to care for the terrarium
Position and light
Keep the terrarium in a bright room, but away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and drafts: the glass amplifies heat, and the leaves inside can burn within a few hours. An east- or north-facing window is perfect; a south-facing window is fine if the terrarium is 1-2 meters away.
Humidity and water
Observe the inside walls: if they are fogged up, the humidity is correct. If the glass is completely dry, add 2-3 sprays of room-temperature water with a mister; if there is instead a lot of dripping water, open the lid (if the container is closed) for 24 hours. Mist the substrate with low-limescale water (rainwater, distilled, or filtered), approximately every 14 days in summer and every 30 days in winter, and never water with a stream.
Temperature
The ideal temperature is between 18 and 24 °C; avoid temperatures below 10 °C or above 30 °C.
Ventilation and cleaning
If the terrarium is closed, open the lid once every 7-10 days for 30 minutes to refresh the air and prevent mold. Every 2-3 months, remove dry leaves or decomposing parts with long tweezers and clean the inside of the glass with a soft, dry cloth when condensation allows; outside, a soft cloth is sufficient.
Fertilizer and pruning
Regular fertilization is not necessary because the terrarium is a self-sufficient microenvironment. If you notice slower growth after 6-12 months, use half the dose of liquid fertilizer for green plants in spring or summer, diluted by half again. When a plant grows too much, prune it or replace it.
