How to care for the terrarium
Position and light
Keep the terrarium in a bright room but away from direct sunlight: the glass amplifies heat, and the leaves inside can burn within a few hours. An east- or north-facing window is perfect; a south-facing window is fine if the terrarium is 1-2 meters away.
Humidity and water
Observe the inside walls: if they are misted, the humidity is correct. If the glass is completely dry, add 2-3 sprays of room-temperature water with a mister; if abundant water is running down instead, open the lid (if the container is closed) for 24 hours. Mist the substrate directly with low-limescale water (rainwater, distilled, or filtered), approximately every 14 days in summer and every 30 days in winter, and never water by pouring, to prevent water from pooling at the bottom.
Temperature
The ideal temperature is between 18 and 24 °C; avoid exposing the terrarium to temperatures below 10 °C or above 30 °C.
Ventilation and cleaning
If the terrarium is closed, open the lid once every 7-10 days for 30 minutes to refresh the air and prevent mold. Every 2-3 months, remove dry or decomposing leaves with long tweezers and clean the inside of the glass with a soft, dry cloth.
Fertilizer and pruning
Regular fertilization is not necessary because the terrarium is a self-sufficient microenvironment. If you notice slower growth after 6-12 months, in spring or summer use half the dose of liquid fertilizer for green plants, further diluted by half. When a plant grows too large, prune or replace it.
