Choosing the right container is essential for a specimen of this size.

Care and placement:
Position: Plenty of bright, indirect natural light, preferably near large north- or east-facing windows. Ficus lyrata loves light but not direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Finding the right position and keeping it there is essential: this plant is highly sensitive to being moved and may lose leaves if relocated. Recommended minimum ceiling height: 4 metres.
Watering: Moderate and regular. Allow the top 3-4 cm of substrate to dry out between waterings. Avoid waterlogging at all costs, as it is the main cause of problems for this species. For a specimen of this size, a structured and monitored irrigation system is recommended.
Humidity: Ficus lyrata thrives in high humidity. In rooms with air conditioning or central heating, mist the leaves regularly or place humidifiers nearby to maintain optimal humidity.
Leaf maintenance: Periodically clean the large leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain their characteristic shine. Clean, glossy leaves are the hallmark of a perfectly healthy Ficus lyrata.

Fun fact:
Ficus lyrata is native to the tropical rainforests of western and central Africa, where it grows as an emergent tree reaching 12-15 metres in height. The name lyrata derives from Latin and refers to the shape of the leaves, which resembles a lyre or violin. It became the signature plant of contemporary interior design thanks to its widespread appearance on social media - particularly Instagram and Pinterest - starting in 2010, when the world's most influential interior designers began systematically incorporating it into their most iconic projects.
