Interesting fact
Citrus kinzu is highly valued in the bonsai world for its ability to produce small, abundant fruits that can remain on the tree for months without falling – an extraordinary and long-lasting decorative display.
Position
Place it outdoors in full light. The flowers are intensely fragrant at sunset, when pollinating insects are most active – a perfect example of natural symbiosis.
Watering
Water generously in summer and moderately in winter. Avoid wetting the flowers during flowering.
Fertilisation
From spring to autumn, use Hiryo Gold organic-mineral fertiliser or the fast-acting Nutribonsai fertiliser. Do not fertilise during flowering; resume once the fruits have appeared.
Repotting
Every 2 years, in the final days of winter or at the beginning of spring. After repotting, watering with Mistral Bonsai’s Vitabonsai revitaliser is recommended to promote the plant’s recovery.
Substrate
Terrabonsai – a special bonsai substrate that meets water and nutritional requirements, promoting root development and overall vigour. Alternatively: 60% Kiryuzuna + 40% Akadama, which promotes growth but requires more frequent watering.
Pinching
When the shoot has reached 4–6 pairs of leaves, cut it back to leave 1–2 pairs.
Wiring
Can be carried out all year round; take care in spring, when growth is faster, to avoid marks on the bark.
