Citrus myrtifolia – The fragrance of citrus in bonsai form
A 7-year-old outdoor bonsai, elegant and with unique sensory qualities. Citrus myrtifolia, known as chinotto, captivates with its highly fragrant flowers and small decorative fruits that add colour to the garden or terrace all year round. Its compact, glossy leaves, reminiscent of those of the myrtle, make it one of the most prized species for ornamental bonsai.

Interesting facts
Citrus myrtifolia is famous because its fruit is the main ingredient in Chinò, the renowned Italian soft drink with a bitter, refreshing taste. A piece of Italian history on your balcony.
Position
Place it outdoors in full light. The flowers release an intense fragrance at dusk, when pollinating insects are most active – a perfect example of natural symbiosis.
Watering
Plentiful in summer, moderate in winter. Avoid wetting the flowers during flowering.
Fertilization
From spring to autumn, use the Hiryo Gold organic-mineral fertilizer or the fast-acting Nutribonsai fertilizer. Do not fertilize during flowering; resume once the fruits have appeared.
Repotting
Every 2 years, in the last days of winter or at the beginning of spring. After repotting, it is recommended to water with Mistral Bonsai’s Vitabonsai revitalizer to encourage the plant’s recovery.
Substrate
Terrabonsai – a special bonsai substrate that meets water and nutritional requirements, promoting root development and overall vigour. Alternatively: 60% Kiryuzuna + 40% Akadama, which promotes growth but requires more frequent watering.
Pinching
When the shoot has reached 4-6 pairs of leaves, cut it back, leaving 1-2 pairs.
Wiring
Can be carried out all year round; take care in spring, when growth is faster, to avoid marks on the bark.
